We have initiated successful entrepreneurship in Appalachia and around the world…
- 60 businesses have benefitted from our new local tourism program, which is now in the process of being adopted as an official project of Berea’s Tourism Commission.
- Through KIVA, 41 small businesses in third world countries have received micro-loans.
We have trained world leaders for local and global change…
- 4 Berea students have been referred for specialized finance jobs.
- 75 students from 10 different states and 20 different countries trained in skills for job-seeking success from our Cornell partnership
- 22 high-school dropouts in Lie Shu, China were trained in rural economics, with 2 even preparing completed business plans.
We have combined environmental sustainability and financial profitability…
- We have saved money and water, reducing by 80% the water used by all residence hall faucets.
- 50% of water use was reduced in residence hall showers, paving the way to financing further projects aimed at improving economic and environmental sustainability on Berea’s campus.
- Students and members of the Berea community learned skills necessary for financial independence in our 4 Quick and Easy Finance workshops
- 40 local businesses learned about cost cutting techniques by being environmentally friendly through our Save Energy, Save the World project.
We have prepared today’s and tomorrow’s leaders for current and upcoming ethical challenges…
- With Berea College’s Economics & Business department, we have provided practical coaching to 25 of tomorrow’s financial leaders to arrive at positive, ethical solutions to dilemmas that often lead to corporate fraud. 80% of the participants said that they view fraud as more significant to their career.
- We are now collaborating with the College’s labor office to institutionalize ethical training for all of its 1500 student workers.
