White Collar Crime (Forensic Accounting)
“It has become dramatically clear that the foundation of corporate integrity is personal integrity” – Sam DiPiazza, CEO of PwC

Challenge:
With the significant increase in white collar crime in recent years, SIFE Berea College chose to educate students majoring in Business Administration about the consequence of fraud and help students understand the importance of every decision they make as they prepare to enter the work force or graduate.

Action: Our SIFE team collaborated with the college’s Economics and Business Department to bring a CPA form the local accounting firm, Dean, Dorton & Ford, to lead a presentation about organizational fraud. Through case studies and videos, the seminar focused on the three dimensions of fraud (need, opportunity, and justification), which intrigued the participants and kept them involved and interactive during the presentation.

Result: Of the 20 students who participated, 50 percent were accounting majors. Based on the feedbacks and surveys collected, 80 percent of the participants said they understood the significant impact fraud may have on their careers.
