The Learning Center's Programming for Faculty
The Learning Center sponsors programs faculty and staff throughout the academic year. These programs include:
- Teaching/Learning Lunches are monthly presentations and conversations for faculty and staff members interested in issues of teaching and learning. These lunches are usually held one Thursday a month in Draper 307 from 11:30 to 1:00. Details are available on the Faculty Development Calendar (the Blue Sheet), and by email invitations sent the week before each event.
- Friday Colloquia Series highlights scholarly and creative work by faculty and staff. Presentations are usually held one Friday each month in Draper 307 from 3:30 to 5:00. Details are available on the Faculty Development Calendar (the Blue Sheet), and by email invitations sent the week before each event. This series includes the Celebration of Creative Work by Faculty and Staff, an annual gathering of creative and scholarly writing, artwork, and other expressions of creativity by Berea College employees and retirees.
- New Faculty Programs are co-sponsored with the Dean of the Faculty, and include a variety of orientation and professional development workshops, seminars, and other activities for first year.
- Fall semester sessions include an introduction to Berea College, discussions of legal issues relevant to college teaching.
- During the January Short Term, new professors participate in an intensive three-week seminar that delves more deeply into life at Berea and broader teaching and learning issues.
- Monthly “New and Newish Faculty Lunches” are held throughout the year for faculty in their first and second years of teaching at the College. These lunches are attended only by these new faculty members and provide time for discussion and community-building.
