- The following duties are specific to grade 2 consultants in the Learning Center:
- Completing the certification process
- Observing Senior (Grade 4) consultants during consultations
- Reading various books to prepare to tutor students effectively
- Learning how to give presentation to classes
- Tutoring student clients
- The following are possible additional duties for this position:
- Scheduling appointments
- Setting up the office for labor meetings
- Arranging conference room with office staff for faculty meetings
- Working on compilation of Carillon – Learning Center literary magazine
- Training to become Publications/Web designer
- Working with GSTR program, to include professors and lecture material, to better understand required curriculum
- Learning Opportunities:

- Will develop an ethical understanding of work
- Will learn to take on responsibility needed for this job and others that may follow

Primary mission of the student is to enhance learning through service to students, faculty, and staff. In an effort to best follow through on this mission the grade level 2 Learning Center consultants will follow through on all training objectives, meet consultant certification criteria, and begin tutoring students in one-on-one consultations.

- Completing the certification process
- Observing Senior (Grade 4) consultants during consultations
- Reading various books to prepare to effectively consult students

- Working on compilation of Carillon – Learning Center literary magazine
- Managing Publications/Web space

In an effort to best follow through on this mission the grade level 3 Learning Center learning center consultant will: begin to assist grade level 2 consultants on their training objectives; conclude, if it has not been already, his or her own certification; continue tutoring students in one-on-one consultations; and begin giving presentations to requesting classes.

- Reading various books to prepare to effectively consult students
- Advancing presentation skills
- The following are possible additional duties for this position:

In an effort to best follow through on this mission the grade level 4 Senior Learning Center Consultants will: provide insight about past experiences; assist other consultants on their training objectives; provide service to all and any clients needing assistance; be prepared to organize and present material to other students and classes; lead fellow consultants through various trouble areas dependent upon the needs of those various consultants.

- The following duties are specific for the Managing Consultant in the Learning Center:
- Mentoring of all learning center subordinates so as to provide guidance, direction, and motivation
- Developing leadership skills
- Creating training protocols for staff
- Participating actively with Labor Supervisors
- Tutoring student clients – primarily those in upper level classes
- Mentoring new consultants while serving as a resource to senior consultants
- Planning and coordinating staff manual; developing and implementing on-going staff training; and scheduling and leading consultant development
- Supervising and coordinating with presenters to verify that they are adequately prepared; also, coordinating between managing consultant and staff presentation organizer should occur
- Helping with any other job-related task and organization thereof as assigned by faculty management
- The following are possible additional duties for this position:
- Organizing Carillon – Learning Center literary magazine
- Coordinating for the Learning Center web site
- Assisting in designing of new training to further help consultants prepare for consultations in regards to new GSTR program classes
- Designing new presentations for classes and teach other consultants how to design presentations
- Overseeing writing of new Tip Sheets for Learning Center
- Verifying preparedness of consultants to perform taped interviews

- Narrative Summary:
Primary mission of the student is to enhance learning through service to students, faculty, and staff. In an effort to best follow through on this mission the grade level 5 Learning Center Managing Consultant will: handle all organizational tasks mandated by preceding sections; train fellow consultants on areas deemed appropriate by labor supervisors; serve as the liaison between student employees and faculty management. It is expected that the Learning Center Managing Consultant will guide, assist, and motivate fellow consultants. Also, in an effort to protect the interest of fellow consultants, it should be known that all consultants may speak with the Faculty and Staff labor supervisors in regards to any concerns they may have. The system between the managing consultant and other consultants should be fair and equal. It is expected that the Managing Consultant will continue peer tutoring student clients as long as he or she maintains the position.

The Learning Center staff is excited that you are interested in learning more about our center and possibly becoming a staff member. We encourage workers who are committed and qualified to serve students and faculty and who can work well with other Learning Center staff members.

- Complete the application, attaching two recent writing samples; one of the samples should be a documented essay or research paper. You are also required to attach your resume to the application. Please review the attached “Thought Questions” to help you prepare for possible questions that may arise during your interview with a current Senior Consultant.
- Return your application to the Learning Center and schedule an appointment to meet with a Senior Consultant. During your meeting, you will be asked how you would help a client, complete a grammar test, and do a mock consultation with a short sample paper that will be provided for you. Also, the Senior Consultant with whom you meet will be able to answer any questions that you have about the application process or about work at the Learning Center.
- After meeting with a Senior Consultant, you must schedule an appointment to meet with the coordinator of the Learning Center, Megan Hoffman at extension 3347 or the Program Assistant of the Learning Center, Vicky Hayes at extension 3233.
