Overview
These are family records and stories, published writings and correspondence of
Mabel Martin Wyrick, a writer and community historian (Whitley - Knox - Laurel
Counties) from Corbin, Kentucky. She wrote for several local publications, including “Factual
Folklore” and “Mabel’s Fables for the London Sentinel-Echo
(Ky.) and the Corbin Times-Tribune (Ky.), and published a book entitled If
Quilts Could Talk, I'd Listen (1988).

This series consists mainly of mid 1980s correspondence with Loyal Jones
of the Berea College Appalachian Center. There is also a variety of other items
including hand-written words of the ballad “The Blind Girl,” a
1872 Charleston, SC newspaper, a Gift Concert notice with family names and
dates, and newspaper articles by Wyrick.
