Provenance: This is an artificial collection created from multiple donations given by a number of contributors. It exists as a companion to and an extension of the Shedd/Schwarzschild Abraham Lincoln Book Collection. The collection opened for research in the summer of 1993.

Access: There are no restrictions on the collection other than federal copyright regulations.

Overview

The contents of the Abraham Lincoln Collection vary greatly and represent the historical and the ephemeral. Items contained herein elucidate his personal life and work before and during his presidency (early life, politics, and the Civil War). Materials include pamphlets of commemoration, information regarding various memorials and tributes erected and established in his honor, a section regarding the industry and culture built around the collecting of Lincoln memorabilia, as well as images, artifacts, and souvenir items. The collection includes documentation of Shedd's book collecting.
