Alan
Jabbour's (April - June 2008) work in the Berea
Archives provided the opportunity to delve deeply into Kentucky
fiddling especially as represented in the recordings
of collectors Bruce Greene and John Harrod. His study
involved analyzing the similarities and differences between
eastern Kentucky fiddling and that of North Carolina,
Virginia, and West Virginia, the focus of his well known
previous documentation efforts. In collaboration with
Karen Jabbour, recordings from Berea's collections of
Old Regular Baptist singing were accessed in connection
with research on the Decoration Day cemetery tradition.
