| 1994 The Isaac Davis Smokehouse resides on the Berea College Campus. It is said to have been built ca. 1850, possibly as a corn crib. In the late 1800s the Davis Family used it as a smokehouse. Around 1900 Isaac Davis converted it into a broommaking workshop. In 1972 Berea College students moved on campus log by log and reshingled the roof. |
1933 or 34, photographed by Doris Ulmann. The smokehouse is seen here while in use by Davis as a broommaking workshop. Doris Ulmann photographed it while visiting the Berea area. |
