Compassion Fatigue, Burnout, and Compassion Satisfaction: An Examination of Preventative Education and Outcomes for Students in CELTS
Presenter: Dr. Amanda Wyrick (Psychology)

Please join Dr. Amanda Wyrick in a presentation of the 2016 Work Colleges Consortium Grant research project that examined the effect of providing preventative education on reduction of student psychological and physiological distress. Fifteen CELTS students read, discussed, and implemented psychological and contemplative strategies from Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others (Lipsky, 2009) and Overcoming Compassion Fatigue: A Practical Resilience Workbook (Teater & Ledgate, 2014). Special attention was paid to educating students on viewing self-care activities as necessary for ethical, responsible, and sustainable careers in service fields. Results indicate that as a result of group participation, students experienced intrapersonal growth. This presentation will highlight ways we can prepare students for the inner work that is required to live a life of engaged citizenship.
