Take Back the Night
(Student Events)

1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experience sexual violence worldwide, with fewer than half reporting their abuse. Take Back the Night events have occurred around the world for more than fifty years to spread awareness of sexual violence and assault and to encourage discussion of the fear women feel when they walk the streets alone after darkness falls. We are literally taking back the night from sexual predators and perpetrators.

We will begin in Baird Lounge with a screening of the movie "The Hunting Ground," followed by a Q & A panel composed of members of the BRCC, Public Safety, Counseling Services, self-defense educator Jim Butler, and a member of the student body. The evening will also showcase a lineup of poetry writers and speakers, artists, dancers, and singers. Take Back the Night will culminate with a march around campus, ended by a silent candlelight vigil on the quad. A keynote speaker will be followed by an open mic for anyone who feels the need to speak.
