(Administrative)

I'm pleased to officially introduce Ms. Helena Sizemore, Berea's new Academic Specialist.

At Berea, Helena will Key full-time position in the Promise Neighborhood Initiative. There will be an Academic Specialist (AS) located at all schools in
the Promise Neighborhood providing services to all students. Academic Specialists will provide direct services and interventions to students by meeting with students, individually and collectively, to develop a plan for academic success and to provide academic interventions and referrals to services necessary to ensure success. Services will vary depending upon the level of students. The AS will work with students for as long, and as intensively, as needed to assist each student in achieving academically, becoming college and career ready and adjusting to post-secondary education or training programs. Academic Specialists will monitor individual student data using an Early Warning System to ensure that interventions occur as soon as signs of concern rise (attendance issues, discipline referrals, etc.). Additional responsibilities include providing content area tutoring in and out of school and serving as a school and community resource on college access and awareness

Helena received her B.A. from Northern Kentucky University, with a major in Anthropology. Anthropology is the science that deals with the origins, physical and cultural development, biological characteristics, and social customs and beliefs of humankind.

Helena joined us from Clay County Board of Education where she was a substitute teacher. Also she was a student worker for NKU Museum of Anthropology.

In Helen's free time she likes to sit down with a good book.
