(Asian Studies Program)

In August 2018, Berea College and the Kentucky Japanese studies community lost a beloved friend and mentor, former Japanese language instructor Nobuko Toda Patton (1960-2018):

On March 28, 2019 at 5:15 p.m., we will gather at the Japanese cherry tree planted on the quad in front of the Draper Building in her honor to appreciate its beautiful new blossoms and celebrate the life of a woman who made this world and our campus a better place. Everyone is welcome to attend the brief ceremony of dedication.

Prior to gathering at the tree, in Draper 100 there will be a video presentation of Nobuko's "last lecture" to her students as well as some special music in honor of Nobuko, starting at 4:20 p.m. Following the dedication at the tree, we will remain on the quad to enjoy hanami ("flower viewing") and share fun, food, and memories of Nobuko.

Everyone is welcome to attend!
