Civic Engagement Across the Disciplines Lunch Series - Fridays in February!
(CELTS (Center for Excellence in Learning through Service))

These lunchtime discussions are open to all, regardless of how much experience you already have in this area. The topics were determined based on feedback from faculty and staff who attended a lunchtime discussion in the fall focused on, "Student Civic Engagement Across the Disciplines." We're hoping to have a broad range of experience and academic fields represented in these discussions so we can learn from one another and broaden our own conceptions of what civic engagement looks like across the disciplines.

Friday, February 2: Crafting Civically Engaged Assignments
Presenter: Dr. Andrea Woodward (Sociology and Child and Family Studies)

This session will provide concrete examples of assignments that help students transfer what they're learning in a given class into various forms of civic engagement. Examples include policy briefs, letters to the editor, letters to elected leaders, and analysis of current events. Please bring examples of assignments that you've used to promote civic literacy or engagement if you have them!
