BMED Constitution

Article I - Name
The name of this organization shall be Berea Middle Eastern Dance (BMED).

Article II- Objectives
The objective of the Berea Middle Eastern Dance shall be:
• To bring understanding of the Middle Eastern culture to Berea College campus.
• To educate, through dance, music and informational sessions, the College community, the wider community of Berea, and beyond.
• To learn Middle Eastern Dance movements, which help tone the body, improve posture, empower the spirit and gain confidence.
• To develop an appreciation for the Middle Eastern musical components: rhythms, modes, melodies and lyrics.

Article III – Membership
BMED is open to all students, staff and faculty of Berea College.
Membership dues are $5.00 per academic year, and are payable by the second week of the fall term or within two weeks of joining. 

Article IV – Officers
Officer positions for BMED are President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Planner. The Advisor for BMED will be a member of the Berea College General Faculty/Staff. The Advisor will monitor the activities of this organization. He/she will also uphold the Constitution and provide advice and assistance to the members and officers.

Section One:
In order to be eligible to be President of BMED, one must be an active member of the BMED. Term of office is one academic year, with the ability to be re-elected. If position becomes vacant before the end of the year, the Vice President will fill the Presidential position until the next voting period.

Section Two:
To be eligible for the position of Vice President of the BMED, one must be an active member of the BMED. Term of office is one academic, with the ability to be re-elected. If the position becomes vacant before the end of the year, an email will be sent out notifying all members of BMED of the vacancy and a vote will be held at the next practice time. One week after the vote, the new Vice President will be announced.

Section Three:
To be eligible for the position of Secretary/Treasurer of BMED, one must be an active member of the BMED. Term of office is one academic, with the ability to be re-elected. If the position becomes vacant before the end of the year, an email will be sent out notifying all members of BMED of the vacancy and a vote will be held at the next practice time. One week after the vote, the new Secretary/Treasurer will be announced.

Section Four:
To be the Planner of BMED, one must be an active member of the BMED. Term of office is one academic year, with the ability to be re-elected. If the position becomes vacant before the end of the year, an email will be sent out to all members of BMED of the vacancy and a vote will be held at the next practice time. One week after the vote, the new Planner will be announced.

Article V – Meetings
General meetings for all BMED members will usually be held prior to practice time. Such meetings will be announced by email.

Meetings of BMED officers will be held regularly and are open to all BMED members. The faculty advisor, President, and/or Vice president of BMED can call meetings when necessary. Meetings can be announced by email to all BMED members or during the current meeting or practice.

Article VI – Elections
Elections of officers shall be held during the third week of the fall term. Nominations for office should be submitted by email to the club advisor at least three days prior to the meeting in which the elections will take place. Voting will be by secret ballet. At least 50% of the members need to be present during elections. Officers will be elected by a simple majority vote.

Article VII – Amendments
In order to revise and/or amend this constitution, a total of two-third affirmative vote of BMED current members is required.
