Denny Plattner Awards
Kenneth and Elissa May Plattner established the Denny C. Plattner Awards in 1995 to honor their late son, Denny, and his love for writing. Each year since then a panel of outside judges has selected what they consider to be the best pieces to appear that year in Appalachian Heritage. First place winners each receive $200.00,
and all winners in each category
receive bookracks from Berea College Crafts with personalized plaques commermorating this achievement. Plattner awards were judged by Sam Ruddick (for fiction), Jordan Sanderson (for poetry) and Greg Napp (for non-fiction). Each judge is a PhD candidate in creative writing at the University of Southern Mississippi. Here are the winners:
