Kenneth
and Elissa May Plattner established the Denny C. Plattner
Awards
in 1995 to honor their late son, Denny, and his love for writing.
First place winners each receive $200.00, and all winners
in
each category receive a bookrack from Berea College Crafts
with a personalized plaque commemorating their achievement.
This
year Andrew Plattner, brother of the late Denny C. Plattner,
judged the award. He wrote, “As I read over all the stories,
poems, memoirs and interviews, I felt carried away by these
lovingly constructed time machines. And after the trip was over,
picking winners was more difficult than betting the right horse
in the Kentucky Derby. But I am confident I selected deserving
ones.” Thanks to the Plattner family and congratulations
to those honored.
