Thursday, July 16 - Sunday, July 19 - 13th annual West Virginia Writers' Workshop at West Virginia University. The West Virginia Writers' Workshop is a four-day conference including workshops, panel discussions, public readings, and lectures. This year's award-winning faculty includes Mark Brazaitis, James Harms, Patricia Henley, Jon Hoppenthaler, Shara McCallum, Paula McLain, and Richard Wiley.

Sunday, July 26 – Friday, July 31 – 32nd annual Appalachian Writers Workshop at Hindman Settlement School. The Writers Workshop provides an opportunity for aspiring and accomplished writers to immerse themselves in a community of people who appreciate Appalachian literature and who hail from and/or write about the region. Writers of varying skill levels are encouraged to attend. You need not live in the region to apply. All activities take place on the historic campus of Hindman Settlement School.
