Friday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. —Jeff Biggers, author of The United States of Appalachia and co-editor of No Lonesome Road: The Prose and Poetry of Don West, will read in the Appalachian Center Gallery in the Bruce Building on the Berea College Campus. This will be a celebration of the Fall 2008 issue of Appalachian Heritage, which features the late Don West as our Featured Author and his wife, the late Connie West, as the Featured Artist. Wess Harris will also present prints of Connie West’s art for sale, as well as presenting a display of coal mining memorabilia from Southern West Virginia. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m. and the reading will begin at 8:00 p.m .
Saturday, November 15 – The Knoxville Writers' Guild will host a poetry writing retreat at the former Orr Mountain Winery building between Sweetwater and Madisonville, Tennessee. The instructor will be poet and teacher KB Ballentine. This workshop will focus on developing writing skills based on external prompts and stimuli. The workshop is limited to 16 participants. The cost, which includes a catered lunch, is $95 for members of the Knoxville Writers' Guild and the Chattanooga Writers' Guild and $115 for nonmembers.
