Thursday, July 5—The annual Open Mike Night will be held by the Knoxville Writers' Guild. Bring 3-5 minutes of your writing to read as well as anyone else who would enjoy the evening. The reading starts at 7 p.m. at the Laurel Theater on the corner of 1th Street and Laurel Avenue, but be sure to come early in order to sign up. A dollar donation per person is requested.

Saturday, July 7–Friday, July 13—The 22nd annual Antioch Writers’ Workshop will be held in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The conference will include workshops on poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Among the staff will be Crystal Wilkinson.

Saturday, July 7–Saturday, October 6—An art display will be held at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft in Louisville. The art work on display is all inspired by prose, poetry and songwriting by Appalachian artists. The exhibit is entitled "Visions From Voices: Art Inspired by Kentucky Poetry, Prose and Music." Readings by Bobbie Ann Mason, Richard Taylor, Ed McClanahan, James Baker Hall and Wendell Berry will accompany the display.

Sunday, July 8–Sunday, July 15Tin House Magazine and Tin House Books will hold the 5th annual Tin House Summer Writers Workshop. The workshops will be one-week writing intensive and will include readings, seminars and panels. Among the faculty will be Dorothy Allison.

Monday, July 9 –Thursday, July 26 —The 2007 Knoxville Writers' Guild Summer Workshops will be held. Most Workshops are $20 each for Knoxville Writers' Guild members and are 2 or 3 hours long. See their website at www.knoxvillewritersguild.com for more information.

Friday, July 13–Sunday, July 15—The 2007 Appalachian Writer’s Conference will be held at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. Sharyn McCrumb will be the keynote speaker.

Tuesday, July 17–Sunday, July 29—The eighteenth session of the Sewanee Writers’ Conference will be held at the University of the South in Tennessee.

Thursday, July 19-Sunday, July 22 The West Virginia Writers' Workshop will be held at the West Virginia University. Members of the faculty include Sara Pritchard and Cheryl Ware, among others. The workshop will also have free readings which will be open to the public.

Saturday, July 21—Jan Sparkman will be holding a book signing and reading from her book, Window to Home, at Brookhaven Christian Books in London, Kentucky from 1:00-3:00.

Thursday, July 26–Sunday, July 29The Gathering, a conference that celebrates literature for readers, writers and thinkers will be held in La Plume, Pennsylvania. Among the keynote speakers will be Katherine Patterson. The theme this year is “Starry Night.”

Friday, July 27—Crystal Wilkinson will be the featured author at the third writers workshop in the Appalachian Circuit Writers Project. The workshop, to be held at the Morgan County Library, will cost $25 and will start at 1:00 and run until 5:00. Lunch is provided.

Saturday, July 28The Appalachian Heritage Alliance will be holding their Appalachian Circuit Writers Project at the Morgan County Library in Kentucky. Crystal Wilkinson will be the workshop leader.

Saturday, July 28–Sunday, August 12—The 2007 Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon, Virginia, will feature writers Darnell Arnoult, Belinda Smith, Tamara Baxter, and Dan Stryk.

Sunday, July 29–Friday, August 3—The 30th annual Appalachian Writers Workshop will take place at Hindman Settlement School. The workshop this year is in honor of it’s founder, Albert Stewart. Some of the staff includes Silas House, Robert Morgan, George Ella Lyon, and Lee Smith.

Appalachian Heritage is part of the Appalachian Center of Berea College.
